STAMM Equipment

Kyoto Eye Examination Simulator

The Eye Examination Simulator is a trainer for fundus examination, designed to allow examination of eyegrounds with the physician’s own opthalmoscope. Various cases can be set up for trainees using combinations of choice of slides, depth and pupil diameter.

Kyoto Ear Examination Simulator

The Ear Examination Simulator is designed for training in the examination of the external acoustic meatus and tympanic membrane directly with an otoscope.  Designed for training in distinguishing case and also practicing ear wax and foreign body removal.

Kyoto Visual-Tactile Breast Examination Simulator

This model allows examination training of dimple sign. The palpable collarbone and rib structure are embedded in the soft breast model.  The differences between four typical breast lumps can be distinguished by palpation.

Kyoto Arterial Puncture Wrist

Radial artery puncture is a common approach for blood collection and artery catheterization.  However, it is a challenging skill for operators.  This simulator is designed to provide training in artery puncture with a true-to-life feeling.

Kyoto Lumbar Puncture Simulator

Collection of cerebrospinal fluid can be simulated using this model. Transparent puncture block allows direct observation of the related area. Spinous process of lumbar spine is palpable. A lumbar spine model with flexible joint is included to facilitate anatomical understanding.

Kyoto and Nasco Male Catheterization Simulator

These models of male anatomy facilitate training in catheterization skills and cleansing skills. Trainees are able to simulate proper procedures. After the catheter reaches the bladder, urine-like fluid (water) is discharged.

Life/form (Nasco) Female Catheterization Simulator

The female catheterization simulator has a bladder reservoir, patient urethra, and a valve simulating the internal urethral sphincter.  The normal feeling of resistance and pressure will be experienced as a catheter is passed through the urethra, past the sphincter, and into the bladder.  Artificial water will flow from the catheter when it enters the bladder.

Kyoto Central Venous Catheter Insertion Simulator

Three skills can be taught using this simulator:  how to make a safer puncture, how to avoid possible complications that may accompany the puncture, and how to insert the catheter into the correct position.  Three different methods of puncture can be simulated:  subclavian vein approach, supraclavicular approach, and internal jugular vein approach.

Laerdal NG Tube and Trach Care Trainer

Torso task trainer designed for instruction in the care of patients with respiratory conditions and the practice of gastrointestinal care procedures via nasal and oral access.

Limbs and Things Clinical Female Pelvic Trainer

Presents accurate anatomical and tactile representation of the female pelvis for hands-on examination and diagnosis of pathologies and abnormalities. Interchangeable uteri include a normal anatomy, ovarian cyst, fibroid, and retroverted uterus.

Kyoto Intravenous Training Arm

Provides for essential training in the procedures of blood collection, infusion, and intravenous injections.

Simulab Ultrasound Thoracentesis

Simulates a partial torso with anatomical landmarks including the scapula, ribs, diaphragm, pleural cavity, and lung. A positive fluid flow then offers users feedback when pleural effusions are accurately accessed.

Simulab Ultrasound Arthrocentesis

Represents an extended left leg and includes the patella, patella ligament, tibia, fibula, femur, synovial sac, and synovial fluid. Simulated synovial fluid can be removed from a joint cavity using either the medial or lateral approach and insertion sites include suprapatellar and parapatellar.

University of Miami Center for Research in Medical Education – Harvey, The Cardiopulmonary Patient Simulator

Harvey, the Cardiopulmonary Patient Simulator, is a life-sized mannequin that provides a comprehensive cardiology curriculum by realistically simulating 30 cardiac conditions. Unlike a real patient, it is always available and is never tired, worried or abused. Interesting, instructive, or even rare cases may be called up in a matter of seconds.  The student may learn at his/her own rate and become personally involved in the evaluation, acquiring skills as well as cognitive information.
