RESEARCH FUNDING COMMITTEE

Dr. Qunfeng Dong, Committee Chair
Samantha Bynum, Committee Coordinator

The Research Funding Committee (RFC) is charged with reviewing applications for intramural research support and making recommendations regarding funding to the Vice Dean for Research. The use of these funds is intended to meet both emerging opportunities and urgent research needs. These include supporting young/new faculty member(s) in a period of pilot or preliminary investigation that will eventuate in subsequent funding by an external agency, supporting urgent needs of established research programs for which funding may have lapsed temporarily, and allowing the exploration of novel research ideas that may lead to new research directions, especially collaborative or translational programs.

The committee is composed of at least 12 members, who are faculty with established independent research careers. Members are nominated by the Vice Dean for Research and Committee Chair and appointed by the Dean to three-year terms. The committee roster is monitored to insure reasonable distribution among departments and between the clinical and basic sciences.
