School-Based Health Center

School-based health centers are clinics inside schools that provide easy access to affordable health care for students.

Loyola’s School-Based Health Center (SBHC) at Proviso East High School, Maywood, Illinois, provides primary health care, mental health care, nutrition counseling and education, and health education services in a safe and confidential environment.  Students don’t have to leave school to have their healthcare needs met.

The Health Center is independent from Proviso East HS—operated by Loyola University Chicago School of Nursing —and offers services to students beyond what school nurses provide, including:

  • School physicals
  • Immunizations
  • Social work and other behavioral health services
  • Medical nutrition therapy
  • Primary health care
  • Care for urgent and chronic illnesses
  • Laboratory services

The health center is open from 8am to 4pm every day school is in session and Monday through Thursday during the summer.  Many services are provided at no charge, and no student is turned away for being unable to pay.
