CHOIR Director Announced

July 26, 2018

Dear Loyola Health Sciences Community,

I am pleased to announce that François Modave, MS, PhD, will be joining Loyola University Chicago’s Health Sciences Division as Director of the Center for Health Outcomes and Informatics Research (CHOIR) and associate provost in the Health Sciences Division. His first day on campus will be October 15.

The goal of CHOIR is to educate and engage faculty, health care professionals, resident physicians, and students in the fundamentals of health outcomes research and data-driven health care delivery. Dr. Modave has an extensive background in informatics and health outcomes—his most recent role was Associate Professor and Director of the University of Florida’s Health Cancer Center eHealth Core within the Department of Health Outcomes and Biomedical Informatics.

He grew up in Paris, France where he received a BS in Mathematics and Computer Science, and a MS in Mathematics Applied to Engineering. Dr. Modave completed a PhD in Computer Science in Toulouse, France with a focus on data science.

His research is focused on biomedical informatics and machine learning, using it to create interventions for obesity, weight management, and cancer control. Dr. Modave is also focused on developing software to improve decision making in cancer screening and other public health issues. His research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health (NCI, NCATS), the National Science Foundation, as well as IBM and NASA/Boeing.

The work of CHOIR is an important collaboration with our clinical partners at the Loyola University Health System and Trinity Health. CHOIR brings the academic expertise and resources necessary to leverage the potential of Trinity’s health care data to yield data-driven, health care decisions for the benefit of patients. Dr. Modave’s expertise will propel CHOIR to be one of the leaders in healthcare informatics research that will improve patient care.

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Modave to campus in the fall.

Sincerely,

Margaret Faut Callahan, CRNA, PhD, FNAP, FAAN
