Certificate Programs

In addition to the Master's degree (M.A.) and professional doctorate degree (D.Bioethics.) programs, we also offer a certificate option. A certificate in Clinical Bioethics is awarded for completion of twelve credits (4 courses). Requirements for the Certificate include Clinical Bioethics, and at least one of the following: Biomedical Ethics and the Law, Justice in Health Care, or Principles of Health Care Ethics.

To meet the needs of those working in Catholic health systems, we offer a certificate program with a concentration in Catholic Health Care Ethics.

Students that wish to matriculate into the MA program may apply certificate credit toward the MA degree. Certificate applicants are not required to possess a graduate or professional degree.

Non-Degree Seeking Student Option: Applicants interested in enrolling in one course may do so by applying as a non-degree seeking student. Applicants must have at least a bachelor's degree in order to apply as such.

Clinical Bioethics

The certificate in Clinical Bioethics requires a total of twelve (12) credits.

Completion of three (3) credits in:

  • Clinical Topics in Bioethics - BEHP401 (3 credits)

and, at least one of the following (three credits):

  • Biomedical Ethics and the Law - BEHP404 (3 credits)
  • Justice in Health Care - BEHP402 (3 credits)
  • Principles of Healthcare Ethics - BEHP406 (3 credits)

and, TWO additional elective courses for six (6) credits.

Catholic Concentration

The certificate in Bioethics and Health Policy with a Catholic Concentration requires a total of twelve (12) credits.

Completion of three (3) credits in:

  • Clinical Topics in Bioethics - BEHP401(3 credits)

Completion of three (3) credits selected from the following options:

  • Justice and Health Care - BEHP402 (3 credits)
  • Biomedical Ethics and the Law - BEHP404 (3 credits)
  • Principles of Health Care Ethics - BEHP406 (3 credits)

Completion of six (6) credits selected from the following options:

  • Religion and Bioethics - BEHP409 (3 credits)
  • Moral Theology for Bioethics - BEHP414 (3 credits)
  • Catholic Bioethics in Clinical Practice - BEHP415 (3 credits)
  • Catholic Bioethics and Social Justice - BEHP416 (3 credits)
