Colleen Fitzgerald, MD, MS, named medical director of the Clinical Research Office

October 6, 2016

Health Sciences Community,

I am pleased to announce that Colleen M. Fitzgerald, MD, MS, has been named the medical director for the Health Sciences Division Clinical Research Office. She will begin her new role on November 1.

Dr. Fitzgerald will work with the deans of the Stritch School of Medicine and the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing to improve the clinical research environment for all staff, faculty, and students. She will also work with leadership at the Loyola University Health System to foster and facilitate clinical research on our campus and work closely with clinical scientists to prioritize research protocols and improve communications within the Clinical Research Office.

After attending medical school and residency at Northwestern University, Dr. Fitzgerald worked in Northwestern’s Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation as a clinical instructor and then associate professor. She joined Loyola’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in September 2012. Her research focuses on pelvic floor muscle dysfunction and pain.

In the near future, we will be sending additional information about the expanded clinical research services that will unite the university and hospital functions.

Please join me in thanking Tom Layden, MD, the outgoing medical director of the Clinical Research Office, and congratulating Dr. Fitzgerald on her new role.

Sincerely,

Margaret Faut Callahan, CRNA, PhD, FNAP, FAAN
Provost, Health Sciences Division
